Why stand you afar off, O LORD? why hide you yourself in times of trouble?

To the Chief Musician upon aijeleth shahar. A Psalm of David. My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? why are you so far from helping me, and from the words of my groaning?

But be not far from me, O LORD: O my strength, haste you to help me.

O the hope of Israel, its savior in time of trouble, why should you be as a stranger in the land, and as a wayfaring man that turns aside to tarry for a night?

Into your hand I commit my spirit: you have redeemed me, O LORD God of truth.

He sent redemption unto his people: he has commanded his covenant forever: holy and awesome is his name.

Or, Deliver me from the enemy’s hand? or, Redeem me from the hand of the mighty?

Were it not that I feared the wrath of the enemy, lest their adversaries should misunderstand, and lest they should say, Our hand has triumphed, and the LORD has not done all this.

For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land shall hear of it, and shall surround us, and cut off our name from the earth: and what will you do for your great name?
