Now my days are swifter than a runner: they flee away, they see no good.

When a few years have come, then I shall go the way where I shall not return.

My days are past, my purposes are broken off, even the thoughts of my heart.

You carry them away as with a flood; they are like a sleep: in the morning they are like grass which grows up.

In the morning it flourishes, and grows up; in the evening it is cut down, and withers.

My days are like a shadow that declines; and I am withered like grass.

As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourishes.

For the wind passes over it, and it is gone; and the place there shall know it no more.

Man is like to vanity: his days are as a shadow that passes away.

My age is departed, and is removed from me as a shepherd's tent: I have cut off like a weaver my life: he will cut me off from the loom: from day even to night will you make an end of me.

I considered till morning, that, as a lion, so will he break all my bones: from day even to night will you make an end of me.

The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all its loveliness is as the flower of the field:

The grass withers, the flower fades: because the breath of the LORD blows upon it: surely the people are grass.

For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withers the grass, and its flower falls, and the beauty of the appearance of it perishes: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.

Whereas you know not what shall be tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor, that appears for a little time, and then vanishes away.

For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower thereof falls away:

What is my strength, that I should hope? and what is my end, that I should prolong my life?

And where is now my hope? as for my hope, who shall see it?

The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous has hope in his death.

Withhold your foot from being unshod, and your throat from thirst: but you said, There is no hope: no; for I have loved strangers, and after them will I go.

That at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:

Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
