And Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David’s counselor, from his city, even from Giloh, while he offered sacrifices. And the conspiracy was strong; for the people increased continually with Absalom.

A Psalm of David when he fled from Absalom his son. LORD, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me.

Yea, my own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, who did eat of my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.

For it was not an enemy that reproached me; then I could have borne it: neither was it he that hated me that did magnify himself against me; then I would have hid myself from him:

We took sweet counsel together, and walked unto the house of God in company.

Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,

And said unto them, What will you give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.

I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eats bread with me has lifted up his heel against me.

Let death seize upon them, and let them go down alive into the grave: for wickedness is in their dwellings, and among them.

They surrounded me also with words of hatred; and fought against me without a cause.

And the counsel of Ahithophel, which he counseled in those days, was as if a man had inquired at the oracle of God: so was all the counsel of Ahithophel both with David and with Absalom.

And Absalom and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel. For the LORD had purposed to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that the LORD might bring evil upon Absalom.

And when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his donkey, and arose, and got him home to his house, to his city, and put his household in order, and hanged himself, and died, and was buried in the sepulcher of his father.

He frustrates the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform their plans.

With him is strength and wisdom: the deceived and the deceiver are his.

He looses the bonds of kings, and girds their loins with a waistband.

He takes away the speech of the trustworthy, and takes away the understanding of the aged.

And the spirit of Egypt shall fail in its midst; and I will destroy its counsel: and they shall seek after the idols, and the charmers, and the mediums, and the wizards.

Surely the princes of Zoan are fools, the counsel of the wise counselors of Pharaoh give foolish counsel: how do you say unto Pharaoh, I am the son of the wise, the son of ancient kings?

The princes of Zoan have become fools, the princes of Memphis are deceived; they have also seduced Egypt, even they that are the cornerstones of its tribes.

Neither shall there be any work for Egypt, which the head or tail, palm branch or bulrush, may do.

And the land of Judah shall be a terror unto Egypt, everyone that makes mention of it shall be afraid in himself, because of the counsel of the LORD of hosts, which he has determined against it.

In that day shall there be an altar to the LORD in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a pillar at its border to the LORD.

And the LORD shall be known to Egypt, and the Egyptians shall know the LORD in that day, and shall make sacrifice and offering; yea, they shall vow a vow unto the LORD, and perform it.

In that day shall there be a highway out of Egypt to Assyria, and the Assyrian shall come into Egypt, and the Egyptian into Assyria, and the Egyptians shall serve with the Assyrians.

Whom the LORD of hosts shall bless, saying, Blessed be Egypt my people, and Assyria the work of my hands, and Israel my inheritance.

How do you say, We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us? Lo, certainly he made it falsely; the pen of the scribes made it a lie.

The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: lo, they have rejected the word of the LORD; and what wisdom is in them?

Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seems to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise.

And again, The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain.

This wisdom descends not from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic.
